It’s official, football’s worst kept secret is out, José Mourinho has returned to Chelsea as manager. And despite the managerial merry-go-round that is dominating the top of the Premier League no story has garnered as much attention as the return of The Special One. And that’s just the way he likes it.
As he cavorted around the Hampden pitch yesterday afternoon, the Scottish Cup safely gathered within his clutches, Celtic boss Neil Lennon wore the expression of a very satisfied man indeed.
So, there you have it, another Premier League season is done and dusted. There have been ups, there have been downs, there have been winners and there have been losers. And at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about. Ignore all that ‘it is the taking part that counts’ nonsense, everyone wants to come out of the season on top but of course not everybody can.
What a week for Sir Alex Ferguson. He can sit back with his feet up and a glass of red wine in hand, looking back at a (26 year) job well done. Not only did he have time to wrestle the title from neighbours City before riding off into the sunset, but he has also successfully fought off yet another City manager, with Roberto Mancini sacked for a trophy less season.
