It’s a debate that’s raged on since the dawn of football, who is the best player in the world? For the last half-decade, possibly a little longer, there has only been two possible answers. You can pick Cristiano Ronaldo or you can pick Lionel Messi. Any other suggestions are quickly dismissed. But now it seems that a favourite is emerging. And he plays in the white of Madrid rather than the blue and red of Barcelona.
Those upstarts at Aberdeen FC clearly haven’t read the script. What other explanation can there possibly be, for the fact that the Pittodrie club have had the temerity to pose what is increasingly being described as a serious league title challenge to champions-elect Celtic?
With the Christmas period comes a few things that we expect to see year in year out. It is finally feet up time for Thierry Henry. This week he officially announced his retirement from playing and can now sit in his arm chair at home and reflect on a job well done. A glittering career has drawn to a close. Like acting greats such as Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, Henry now has a body of work to truly be proud of, and any slight blemishes like an unsuccessful spell at Juventus (or ‘Meet The Fockers’) can be lost to history.
