This season’s top goalscorer looks very hard to pick. Fernando ‘El Sicko Noto’ Torres is already seven from the top, Emmanuel Adebayor is moaning and out of form and Didier Drogba has, it seems, quit the sport to take lessons in vandalism and yobbery.

We are left with Ronaldo; if he stays fit he will almost certainly finish in the top three. Nicolas Anelka has blazed away and if he remains in the side has a very good shout of claiming the title outright. What a turn around that would be from the 12-yard villain of May.

The problem though, is whether Anelka will even play if Drogba decided to take up football again. If he only starts half the Premier League matches his chances will obviously wane significantly.

Amr Zaki, Egyptian bulldozer and top striker in Lancashire has eight already, but given the amount of chances Wigan create he may well find himself too starved to remain near the top.

Value is best represented at 10-1 with Robinho. He will play every game he is fit for; he is in great form and is a natural finisher. An each-way punt on the Brazilian at that price seems to good an offer to turn down. Whilst his goal tally for real Madrid was 1 in 4 he is given more freedom at City and is the fulcrum of their attack.

This time next year the odds will surely be shorter.
