After salvaging a point at Fratton Park on Thursday, Milan’s creaking joints didn’t have fortitude to repeat the feat against Palermo yesterday. After going three down, Ronaldinho missed a spot-kick that could have brought his team back into the game. But alas, it was too little too late as the buck-toothed Brazilian netted from the spot at the second bite of the cherry on 83 minutes. With Kaka and Gatusso missing, the Rossoneri struggled and could have been on a hiding to nothing had it not been for some fine saves by Christian Abbiati in goal.

Inter, meanwhile, took advantage of the slip-up to extend their lead at the top to 6-points. Mourinho’s men brushed aside the challenge of high-flying Napoli, with the 2-1 scorline doing little to reflect their dominance. All the goals came in the first half as Ivan Cordoba and Sulley Muntari gave Inter the lead before Ezequiel Lavezzi pulled one back for the visitors.

Juventus joined Milan on 27 points on Saturday evening after thumping Reggina 4-0 at the Deli Alpi. Del Piero continued his magnificent form so far this season, and his ingenuity was too much for the Serie A strugglers. The Juventus captain capped a fine performance by sealing the rout in the 75th minute - his 250th goal for the club.

Elsewhere, Roma continued their resurgent form beating Fiorentina 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico. Although Adrian Mutu came close with a stunning long range free-kick in the first-half, the only goal of the game came from Francesco Totti on the hour. The Roma captain thumped his shot low and hard beneath Fiorentina’s Sebastian Frey, after being left unmarked just inside the 18-yard-box.

Results: Juventus 4-0 Reggina, Catania 1-1 Lecce, Udinese 0-1 Chievo, Siena 1-0 Torino, Roma 1-0 Fiorentina, Palermo 3-1 AC Milan, Inter Milan 2-1 Napoli,  Genoa 1-1 Bologna,  Cagliari 1-0 Sampdoria, Atalanta 2-0 Lazio
